Many bloggers misuse the H1 H2 and H3 header tags for seo, so in this article, I am going to be providing you some Mentoring With Jeff Tips on these tags to help you rank higher on search engines such as Google.

Header 1 Tags

The header one tag tells search engines what the title of your blog post is, so you should only be using this once to help them understand what your writing about. One mistake many bloggers make is using this on all their headings in their article, you want to avoid doing this so your title is clearly understood.

  • Avoid using more than one h1 tag in a blog post
  • Clearly describe what your article is about
  • I recommend using your title as your h1 tag for the best results
  • Using this in your title is your best reader-friendly strategy
  • Aim for a medium length of fewer than 60 characters
  • Choosing a sentence keyword phrase is what I find works the best
  • You can use two short phrases instead of one if you need to
  • Use your h1 title in your first paragraph in bold helps it stand out
  • Choose an interesting, problem solving h1 tag phrase or phrases

If you follow these tips you will have created an h1 tag that is search engine friendly, I always use long-tail-keyword phrases. For anyone confused about this type of keyword phrase focus on three or more words that describe the topic, I chose h1 h2 and h3 header tags for seo because I am providing you information on how to use these tags to rank higher on search engines.

The SEO Spider Tool is one of the recommended tools

SEO Spider Tool

SEO spider software is a trusted tool by thousands worldwide, you might know this company better as Screaming Frog? You have the option to download for free, or you can also purchase a license for additional features whichever fits your budget the best.

Header 2 Tags

Think of this header tag as subheadings of your article much like chapters are in books, you should be using this to break up your page into sections on the topics you are writing about. When you use these the correct way they can improve your search engine ranking, but how you use them can improve or hurt your ranking.

  • Reader-friendly
  • Focus on secondary keywords or phrases
  • Break up your content
  • Easier to read
  • Scannable
  • Important information
  • Add your long-tail-keyword h1 in content
  • Attention getters for products, tools, and services
  • Tips
  • Strategies
  • Use your h1keyword only in one h2 heading tag

When you use your long-tail-keyword in more than one h2 tag you are hurting yourself instead of helping yourself rank higher, so you don’t want to overuse your keywords in these tags. I recommend you only use three to five secondary keywords per article as well. Many bloggers hurt their ranking by trying to compete for too many words or phrases, you will have more success by choosing less, but take the time to find the words or phrases easiest to rank for.

Heading 3 Tags

This tag is most often used in the comments section of your website or blog. You do have the option to replace your h2 tags with the h3 tags if you wish to, but if you do your text will become smaller and might be harder for your readers to read. You can use this tag as a subheader as well to provide important information you want separate from your h3 text, such as a tip or strategy, you will find this tag provides search engine ranking mainly from the comments from your readers.

The title tags can be very confusing to many just starting out. I know I have made the mistake of using more than one H1 tag in the beginning. I love that you always provide links to really great resources this has helped me a bunch for many that I did not know about. I am always trying to find new applications that makes my life as a blogger much easier and I can count on you to guide me in that direction.
