The King Of Terriers

The Airedale Terriers have earned the nickname as the king of terriers, and you will find they are known as a hunter, athlete, and even more important a great companion. Many owners share their family pet is extremely clever, brave, and an important part of their family.

  • Popularity Ranking 55 of 193
  • Height 23 Inches
  • Weight 50-70 Pounds
  • Life Expectancy 11-14 Years

The Airedale Terriers

If you are looking for a larger terrier this is the largest of the terrier breeds, and the males stand on the average height of twenty-three inches tall. Tan with black markings and a wiry coat which is extremely a thick coat, and most people know them by their beard and moustache. You will make a fine choice adding this canine to your home especially if you have children, and despite their size they are very protective of the children in the family. This member of the terrier family enjoys being active and involved in all your family activities, so this is a good choice as a companion and playmate if you have children.

Nutrition Tips

You will want to provide them with natural pet food. This also should be considered when choosing treats as well, and I have found by my own experience this should be their diet from their puppy to senior years. I always choose a brand which the main ingredient is meat, and I recommend you avoid any brands which include gluten, soy, and artificial ingredients.

Grooming Tips

Airedale Terriers require little grooming which is a great choice for busy families, and most owners share they only bush their pet once per week to maintain their wiry coats. Weekly brushing removes excess hair which prevents extreme shedding, and this is also an awesome dog for people with allergies. Professional grooming is recommended three to four times per year, but many owners share they groom their dog themselves without any problems.

Exercise Tips

Terriers have high energy levels so being active is an important part of their daily routine, but the majority of families with children have found the children provide enough exercise for their pets. If you are a single person or a couple, you should make it a point to provide daily physical activity for your dog, and you will find daily walks provides enough activity for this breed most of the time. Remember, a tired dog is a well-behaved dog, so if your fur baby is getting into mischief this is a sign you need to provide them more exercise.

Airedale Terriers Health Tips

You will find this breed is generally a healthy dog without any severe health issues, and responsible breeds should test their pups for hip dysplasia just to be safe. It is recommended owners check the ears of their pet regularly, so what health tests should your vet perform regularly on your family pet?

  • Hip Evaluations
  • Cardiac Exam
  • Renal Disease

Training Tips

I have always trained my own dogs no matter which breed I have owned, but some owners might want to consider obedience training by a professional. I do recommend you consider a puppy if you are going to be training them yourself, and if you are adopting a shelter dog, a professional might be your best choice. Don’t be fooled into believing all shelter pets are problem additions to your home, and especially today many seniors on fixed incomes are forced to give their pets to shelters to find them good homes.

Airedale Owners

There has been some famous people who were Airedale Terriers owners, and one of them was one of our most famous presidents of the United States” Woodrow Wilson”. Another president who owned this dog breed was” Calvin Coolidge” and did you know the author of” Mice And Men” John Steinbeck also was an Airedale owner?

CBD Oil For Dogs

Many owners are starting to use CBD hemp oil for their dogs, but all of these products are not created the same. You want to be sure the product you choose isn’t just hemp seed oil without CBD, and at the same time you want to be sure there is no marijuana which will be labeled as THC. Organic grown is very important for your dogs health, and even though there are many good companies to choose from I recommend CBD BioCare, so if you are in search of information I suggest you check their website first.

I can already see an improvement

I have been giving these herbal drops to my 11 year old chocolate lab, who suffers from arthritis. It’s only been a few weeks and I can already see an improvement! Cooper moves easier, has more energy and wants to play more with his buddy Cody. Looking forward to seeing even more improvements in this old boy!!

This is a great article on Airedale Terriers! I am curious you say they are great with kids but with their size don’t they have a tendency to knock children down or are they one of the dog breeds that are super cautious? I know the picture is adorable and would make anyone dog lover out there just want to love all over it.

    Thank You Dena

Airedale Terriers are known to be gentle with children like many other dog breeds, but like any larger dog you should
be careful and supervise your children playing with a dog. Toddlers are the age group of children you should be the
most careful about, but usually when an Airedale Terrier is added to the family as a puppy they adjust very well to
playing with kids of all ages.
