What Is A Google Chromebook

what is online marketing strategies

I have been shopping for laptops for my business, and so this is how I decided to write What Is A Google Chromebook. Most of you like myself have more likely heard of this type of laptop, but if you are like me, you might not really know all that much about them?

Google Chromebooks

The Google Chromebooks are available on laptops and tablets, and I for one didn’t know this. These operate on a system by the name of the Linkx-Based Chrome OS, and these perform on the Chrome Browser. These are basically designed and manufactured by Google, so what are the PROS and CONS of purchasing these products?

Bloggers, Students & Professionals

Google Chromebooks are recommended for bloggers and students who are shopping for a budget-friendly laptop or tablet, and for the person on the go, the lightweight is another bonus to consider. For those who spend their time online, and if Chrome Browser is your preferred browser and works well for you, this could be a product to consider.

If you are a professional business that requires the use of software, I would not recommend you go with this product. This is not going to provide you a powerful computer capable of adding your favorite business software and hardware, but if you are mainly purchasing this type of product for just when you are out and about for research and shopping this would make you a nice supplemental device.

Shopping Tips

How do you choose the best Chromebooks might be something you would like to know, I know this was important to me since I know very little about laptops, so here are the shopping tips provided by PC Magazine.

  • Screen Resolution for screens between 13 to 15 inches, 1080p will be a good choice to consider.
  • Celeron or Pentium will be adequate choices, and Chromebooks based on Core CPUs will provide you more multitasking but expect to pay more.
  • Storage is in the cloud so your storage choices will be between 32GB and 64GB, you do have the option to add a SD card slot for more storage if needed.
  • Most Chromebooks are wireless, so you will be using WiFi connections, you can add USB ports to attache a mouse.

PC Magazine Recommends

Here are what PC Magazine recommends for those shopping for a Chromebook, So let’s see what they have to say?

  • Limited Budget ( Acer Chromebook 514)
  • Students ( ASUS Chromebook C5 23)
  • Business ( Acer Chromebook 714)
  • Streaming ( HP Chromebook 15 )
  • Enterprise ( Dell Latitude 5300 2 in 1 )
  • Travelers ( Google Pixelbook Go )
  • Inexpensive ( HP Chromebook x360 )
  • Shoppers ( Lenovo C340 )

I have to admit I don’t totally agree with PC Magazine’s recommendations, but they do specialize in computers. I have had bad experiences with Acer in the past, so I am not comfortable with the Acer brand. I have been using HP for years with success, so this is my own favorite brand.

The Google Chromebook Shop

I must admit I was surprised when I visited The Google Chromebook Shop, and I highly recommend if you are seriously shopping for a Chromebook check out their products. You can find a variety of products from a variety of brands, and Acer is one of the brands. Whatever brand you favor the most is totally a personal choice, and we can get a lemon from any brand, so maybe the brand is not as important as I have always thought? You will surprisingly find a variety of price ranges to choose from, so whatever your budget this is the first place I would shop.

The Best Chromebooks 2020

Before I conclude this business training I want to share the best Chromebooks for 2020, and this list is from The Tech Radar website.

  • Google Pixelbook Go according to Tech Radar is the best Chromebook ever made, and this can be yours for approximately $649.00.
  • HP Chromebook 14 is the second best on their list, and as you know my favorite brand. This is supposed to be the best balance between value and design, you can purchase this for approximately $379.00
  • ASUS Chromebook Flip provides premium specs and economical pricing, and this one runs around $399.99
  • Acer Chromebook R11 has a 360 degree hinge that customers rave about, you can take this home for about $401.99
  • Acer Chromebook 314 has the reputation as being an excellent product and deal, you can get this for around $249.00

So you have two websites with reviews on what they feel are your best choices, and now you have to make the difficult decision which one is right for you?

What Is A Google Chromebook

I must admit writing this training for you has at least narrowed down which products I am going to consider, but I am still not sure exactly which one I am going to end up purchasing at this time. For me there is no rush to purchase this product, I am adding this as an additional computer, so I can be more productive when away from home.

    1. Hello, Yahya

I am happy this article on Chromebooks gave you some information that was useful, I didn’t know much about Chromebooks so that was how I chose this topic to write about.

      Jeff

  2. Great post, I have been using chrome books for some time and have come to enjoy them. They have everything you really need and are very economical. I purchased my daughters the acer chromebook 314 and they love it. Cheers

  3. Very good article with a detailed presentation of the product. I think the only thing that makes me against is the small hard drive. If in the future they will create one with a proper hard drive, I will definitely consider buying one.

    1. Hello, Anestis

Chromebooks do have limitations that is why they are budget-friendly, so these are better for students and bloggers than people who need a large hard drive

  4. Hi Jeff
Thanks for posting this very informative post. I was totally unaware of Google Chromebooks and have been busy with my HP desktop for years now. I really appreciate this kind of post, it will certainly help especially people like me who may be far from these technological developments. I will surely visit your site again for more.
    Stay blessed

    1. Hello, Tavengwa

I thank you for reading and sharing, I also am using a HP desktop for years. I was leaning towards a HP laptop, but I ran into these Chromebooks so thought I would write an article on them for my readers like you.
      Jeff

  5. A very informative post.

Must admit i’ve never really considered a google chromebook. I have a pretty old laptop now, which I use rarely…but I always have preferred standard desktops.

Good to see what else is on the market though, as I may need an upgrade soon.

    Thank you for posting.

    1. Hello, Zulfaqar

I also have always used desktops, so I really know very little about any other type of computer. I was considering upgrading to a laptop maybe, and that is how I got the idea to write this article as I was researching Chromebooks

      Jeff

  6. Another great post. Why is it, when I am shopping online for business things, I always find your reviews? Lol
Anyway, thanks for all the great information on Chromebook.

    1. I thank you for being a regular reader of my articles, and I hope I keep writing articles that bring you back to my website over and over again

      Jeff

  7. This is a great review of the Chromebook.

I’ve been thinking about a laptop for a while now, and I think a Chromebook might be a good choice with what I do daily.

    Thank you for the review!

    1. Hello, Joseph

I am have been thinking the same thing about going with my first laptop, I have always used a desktop so I really have been researching laptops and I just happened to notice Chromebooks are very affordable if they work for what you do online
      Jeff

  8. Hi Jeff, what a timely post! I just recently purchased two Chromebooks (Acer and ASUS) for my younger daughters and we are still discovering new things about them everyday. Your post is very informative and I do wish I came across it when I was researching Chromebooks to buy. While I haven’t experienced all the cons you have listed, we definitely love the speed with which the Chromebook boots up, the virus protection and the budget of course. Thanks so much for sharing!

    1. Hello, Chris

Sounds like your daughters and your family are happy with your Chromebook purchases, I have been researching them considering if they would be a good choice for me as well. They are very affordable, but they do have their limitations according to the research I have found so far.

      Jeff

  9. Like you, I didn’t really know what a Chromebook was. I had heard the name but never really looked into it. I recently have started working from home a lot more and need another computer for my house. This is a great resource and start for where to look for one! I hope you’ll share which computer you end up getting for your business!

    1. Thank you, Marlena

I am still shopping for computers, I am not in no hurry my desktop is still up and running but I know its life is getting close to the end. I have to clean it all the time, and it is giving me errors from time to time so those are red flags it is telling me it is ready to retire soon

      Jeff

  10. I have been considering getting a Google Chromebook. I have not had the time to look into this because I am someone who likes to research a product before buying. This review is just what I needed. It has all the detail and more to help me make a decision when I am ready. I have bookmarked this. Thank you for providing so much valuable information on this.

  11. My old ASUS laptop is showing signs of massive deterioration. I’m just worried that it’s going to stop working before I got a chance to shop for a new one. With most of my docs on Gdrive, I’m thinking a Google Chromebook may be a good option.

The Acer Chromebook seems like a good deal. Any idea if it’s reliable?

    1. Hello, Kenny Lee

I had a bad experience with Acer desktops in the past, but the Acer Chromebook has very good reviews. I am in the same boat as you my desktop is getting ready to retire soon, so I need to decide what I am going to replace it with.
      Jeff

  12. Good information, Jeff. I think if I bought a second computer it would be specifically for business so I would not be getting a Chromebook, but it is still useful to know what is available and what the features are. I love that you included reviews from other websites as well as your own experiences.

Getting the right computer is important for anyone who is in business so this article is providing valuable information.

  13. Thanks for the review, Jeff. I’ve been looking to switch from Apple for a while – the last time I tried, I failed miserably with an HP. The interface is just not as nice and that’s something that you really get used to when you’re using a computer you know? I’m a blogger so that’s especially true since I spend so much time on the computer.
The Google Chromebook is something I’ve been looking into ever since it came out – also Best Buy has a really nice pick up policy with the quarantine going on. I’m on the fence but I’m definitely thinking about it!
    Martina

    1. Thank you for sharing, Martina

I do agree Best Buy has the nieces looking computers for the most reasonable prices I have found, and they will match any other store’s prices as well. I am pretty sure I am going to buy my next computer from Best Buy, but I have not decided which computer but I do like the prices of Chromebooks and they have built-in virus protection which is really cool.

      Jeff

  14. The Chromebook sounds interesting and chrome is my browser of choice anyway. A lot of it sound good but I think the con outweigh the pros on this as I don’t go travelling with my computer that often.

    1. Chromebooks are very affordable and they do sound to be a good investment if you need to watch your budget, and what I like about them is they have that built-in virus protection that other laptops don’t have.

      Jeff

  15. Jeff,

This is very useful post for people who would like to buy an affordable laptop for their children. With the lockdowns and the order to stay at home due to COVID19, parents have to provide a tool that their children can use in order to study online from home and complete tasks given by their teachers.
Which brand do you recommend? I had an Acer before but it’s super basic which is fine for students but I need a better laptop for my business.
    Thank you!

    Ferra

    1. Hello, Ferra

I am still trying to decide myself if a Chromebook would be a good choice for me, I like no worries about viruses with a Chromebook and the prices are budget-friendly. Depending on your business is the key to what computer would be your best buy, so I am really spending a lot of time researching computers before I decide to buy.

      Jeff

  16. I’ve been actually thinking about getting a Chrome book as my travel laptop because I do 90% of my work with Google apps anyways. But then again the better one’s aren’t that much cheaper than a professional windows laptop with a decent processor and GPU. A windows laptop would have the full functionality to run any software I need and more power and storage space for video editing for example. Oh man, I liked your article but it actually made the decision even harder, lol!

    1. Hello,Jukka

I am also finding it difficult for myself to decide what computer to go with now, I like the Chromebook affordable pricing and no virus worries which saves me even more money. I mainly just use my computer for research and writing these articles, so a Chromebook might be fine for someone like me.

      Jeff

  17. Hi Jeff,

Great article on Google Chromebooks. I’ve never had a Google Chromebook before, and I think maybe it’s about time I get one. They seem that they could really benefit people and myself who are trying to build their own online business. It can be beneficial for other reasons too. So there are many reasons for me to buy one.

If I do then I’ll let you know what I think of them and give you my own review.

Thank you for sharing another great article and review, keep up the amazing work as a mentor.

    All the best,

    Tom

  18. Frankly even I didn’t know about this laptop and chrome OS. Thank you for enlightening me. I had stuck in a place without a computer because of the lockdown and I wished that I had a cheaper laptop for such occasion, wish I had know about this earlier. May be I will get one next time I am traveling.
